Dangote’s Fortune Soars to $51.2B After Refinery Re-rating

Aliko Dangote’s net worth is set to jump by about $16 billion to roughly $51.2 billion. This follows a $2.5 billion private placement for his Lagos refinery that implied a $40 billion valuation. That mark is nearly double the $20 billion construction-cost basis used by major indices. Applied to his 86.75% stake, the re-rating lifts the refinery holding from $18.6 billion to around $34.7 billion. The new valuation sets a market benchmark ahead of an expected IPO on the Nigerian Exchange, possibly with a London secondary listing. Analysts estimate the refinery could fetch $40 billion to $50 billion, which would boost Dangote’s fortune even further.

It's striking that a private placement can almost double the refinery's valuation from its actual construction cost.
