Jota’s Widow Urges Robertson to Live Their Shared World Cup Dream

Rute Cardoso, widow of the late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, has sent a heartfelt letter to Scotland captain Andy Robertson. She asked him to carry Jota’s dream of playing at the World Cup with him as Scotland returns to the tournament for the first time since 1998. Cardoso recalled how Jota and Robertson often spoke of that shared goal during their time together at Liverpool. She wrote with “longing, gratitude and pride” and said Robertson’s qualification proves Jota’s spirit still lives on the pitch. Published by FIFA, the letter thanked Robertson for honouring Jota’s memory and turning grief into strength. “Cherish that dream, Andy. Live it for yourself and for him,” she wrote. Robertson, visibly moved, said the gesture meant a great deal and vowed to keep Jota in his heart throughout the tournament, playing “not only for me, but for both of us.”
