Ogun Muslim Clerics Urge Action on Hardship and Insecurity to Mark 1448 Hijrah

Ogun Muslim Clerics Urge Action on Hardship and Insecurity to Mark 1448 Hijrah

The Progressive Muslim Clerics in Ogun State have appealed to all levels of government to address rising economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and social inequality. They warned that these challenges threaten national stability and Nigeria’s development. At a press conference in Abeokuta to commemorate the Islamic New Year, their president highlighted the relevance of the Prophet’s Hijrah as a lesson in resilience, sacrifice and strategic planning. He urged leaders to embrace justice, accountability and good governance. The clerics called for youth empowerment through quality education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and civic engagement. They also stressed the need for strong social welfare systems and ethical business practices to ease the burden on citizens. Acknowledging recent economic reforms, they reminded Nigerians of the Qur’anic promise that “with hardship comes ease.” They urged unity across religious and ethnic lines and called on leaders to strengthen institutions and create opportunities for sustainable national development.

It's interesting that these clerics highlight economic hardship as a security threat, yet expecting government alone to fix every issue seems overly optimistic.

Focusing only on poverty and insecurity ignores other social factors; maybe we need broader reforms before pinning hope on government action.

Local communities could form joint security committees and skill training groups to ease hardship, complementing government efforts on unemployment and safety.
