DSS Denies Arrest of Prof Ndibe, Explains Watchlist Review at Lagos Airport
The DSS has clarified that Prof Okey Ndibe was not arrested or detained at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on June 1, 2026. Officials say he was part of a routine review of outdated watchlist records. The exercise, ordered by the current Director-General, aims to prevent Nigerians from facing outdated security alerts. Individuals placed on older lists are invited for brief interviews during transit as a prerequisite for downgrading or final delisting of their names. Prof Ndibe, on the watchlist since January 2013, was cleared and escorted after less than an hour. He later acknowledged the professional conduct of DSS operatives in a public post. The agency noted that several Nigerians, including journalists, have already benefited from this review and urged anyone who believes they are affected to contact DSS headquarters for case evaluation.
