NDLEA Seizes 498kg of Cannabis Hidden in Edo Shrine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency raided a shrine in Igwe community, Owan East LGA, Edo State and recovered 498 kilogrammes of skunk and cannabis seeds. Officers found 59 bags containing 489kg of skunk and nine kilograms of cannabis seeds. The operation followed intelligence linking the location to a drug syndicate. The suspected leader, known as Asrenre, escaped before security arrived and is now being tracked. Some youths initially resisted the search, claiming the shrine was sacred. In a related raid, operatives arrested a 50-year-old man, Sunday Oghaimen, with 945g of cannabis and tramadol. A second suspect, 33-year-old Esther Igbafe, was held with 874g of cannabis, tramadol and Swinol. All exhibits are secured and investigations continue.

I understand this is puzzling. Could routine shrine rituals have distracted people from seeing the stash?

It's interesting that nearly 500kg of skunk and seeds were recovered, yet details about how intelligence led to the shrine aren't clear.

No be small thing say they recovered 498kg, but focusing only on the shrine misses the bigger network behind drug trafficking.
