Locked Gates and No Notice: My PVC Registration Ordeal at the INEC Office
Everyone says “Go and get your PVC,” forgetting that in Nigeria easy things are hard and hard things are harder. Today was my appointment to continue voter registration. I arrived at the INEC local government office only to find the gates locked and no staff or security around. A few people who came before me stood there wondering what to do next. We eventually learned that the registration team moves from one ward to another—but there was no notice at the gate to tell us where or when they’d set up. It felt like they have only one fingerprint machine for the entire local government. I won’t even start on my last attempt to register for the 2023 elections—that’s a story for another day. At least the landscape around the office was stunning. I tried to capture a giant monolith nearby on camera, but my photos didn’t do it justice.
