Starmer Issues 48-Hour Deadline to Strike-Bound NHS Doctors

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has given resident NHS doctors 48 hours to accept a proposed pay deal. He accused them of walking away “recklessly” after the doctors’ association announced a six-day walkout starting April 7. Writing in a national newspaper, Sir Keir warned that rejecting the offer would leave doctors on a standard pay award this year. He said they would miss out on improvements in pay progression and workplace reforms that he believes would strengthen their careers. The government insists the deal balances fair compensation with long-term support for doctors. Sir Keir said a breakdown in talks serves no one’s interests and urged the medical association to return to negotiations.
