NDLEA Uncovers Lagos Warehouses, Seizes ₦16.9bn of Tramadol and Codeine

NDLEA Uncovers Lagos Warehouses, Seizes ₦16.9bn of Tramadol and Codeine

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided three hidden drug warehouses in a residential estate in Okota, Lagos, seizing tramadol pills and codeine syrup valued at ₦16.9bn. The raids on April 17 targeted properties in Park View Estate, including 98 Olukayode Awofisayo Street and 5 Charles Ndumetu Street. Officials recovered 2,360,000 units of 225mg tramadol stored in 34 cartons and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup packed in 19,094 cartons. NDLEA Chairman General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) described the operation as a major breakthrough against drug trafficking networks. He warned syndicates that no part of Nigeria would serve as a safe haven for illegal drugs. The seizure comes amid rising concerns over pharmaceutical opioid abuse among young Nigerians and reflects intensified efforts by authorities to disrupt illicit supply chains.

What measures should NDLEA adopt next to prevent more hidden drug warehouses surfacing in residential Lagos estates?

How do you see NDLEA collaborating with estate residents or security guards to spot suspicious stockpiling early?

True, NDLEA must boost covert intelligence and routine inspections, though I'm not sure this alone will seal every hiding spot.

It's surprising such high-value narcotics were stored in a residential estate without neighbors noticing any suspicious activity.

I'm not convinced this single raid will significantly disrupt the larger networks supplying tramadol and codeine to Lagos.

Residents should report unexpected bulk deliveries and suspicious storage activities directly to NDLEA for quicker follow-up and prevention.
