Ribadu’s Meeting with US Vice President Hard-Resets Nigeria–US Security Ties
Donald Trump’s Vice President J.D. Vance met with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu in Washington to cement a new era in bilateral security cooperation. Vance has become a central figure in US foreign policy and a key ally in the MAGA administration. The visit followed Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern under the US International Religious Freedom Act. Mallam Ribadu was dispatched to counter false narratives of genocide and to propose a partnership that unites all Nigerians against terrorism. He held talks with senior officials across the US government, including the White House Faith Office, State Department, National Security Council, Congress, and the Department of War. Their efforts led to the creation of a Joint Working Group on security collaboration and enabled coordinated actions such as US-backed airstrikes in northwest Nigeria. Since then, both countries have shared critical intelligence and military supplies to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and related threats.
