On April 18, 2026, the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE hosted the first 17km Maj. Gen. EF Oyinlola Inter-Tribal Peace and Unity Race at Mangu Mini Stadium. It brought together male and female youths from diverse ethnic and religious communities in the area. Maj. Gen. Folunsho Oyinlola said the marathon is part of non-kinetic strategies to build trust and peaceful coexistence across Plateau, Bauchi and Kaduna states. Lt Col Ofem John Ofem described the event as a platform for discipline and community collaboration with security agencies. Ziphion Chrysanthus Terkop, the Plateau State Governor’s security liaison, announced full secondary school scholarships and ₦100,000 awards for the two youngest participants. Top male and female finishers received ₦200,000 each, with ₦150,000 and ₦100,000 awarded to second and third place. The programme concluded with the commissioning of a new office block for the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XII in Mangu. The facility includes an operations centre and medical outpost to boost troop response capabilities.

Not sure a one-off event can really bridge deep-rooted divisions beyond the finish line.

Not sure a single marathon can change long-standing tensions in Mangu community, but it's a start to fostering dialogue.

I respect the event, but youth enthusiasm might fade quickly if organizers don't follow up with regular community initiatives.

Make local clubs and schools come together organise follow-up races dey build on this unity momentum across Plateau State.
