CAS Sets October 8 Hearing on Senegal’s Appeal Over 2025 AFCON Final

CAS Sets October 8 Hearing on Senegal’s Appeal Over 2025 AFCON Final

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear Senegal’s appeal on October 8 over CAF’s decision on the 2025 AFCON final against Morocco. CAF’s Appeals Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 administrative win and naming them African champions. Senegal’s football federation is challenging that decision. CAS said the closed-door hearing will follow its standard timeline after the parties failed to agree to an expedited process. Representatives of Senegal, CAF and the Moroccan football federation are expected to present legal arguments, documents and witness evidence before the panel.

I agree, the hearing should at least give fans a clearer sense of what outcome is realistically possible.

An appeal hearing in October means the controversy around the 2025 AFCON final is far from settled.

Calling Morocco champions before the appeal is resolved may be premature, even if CAF's ruling currently stands.

Supporters should follow the CAS decision closely and avoid treating the 3-0 result as the final word until October 8.
