Shock Exit: Italy’s World Cup Dreams Dashed by Bosnia in Penalty Shootout

Shock Exit: Italy’s World Cup Dreams Dashed by Bosnia in Penalty Shootout

Italy’s bid to return to the World Cup ended in heartbreak after they lost 4-1 on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina in their playoff final. The sides had finished 1-1 in normal time, according to USA Today. Four-time champions Italy took the lead through Moise Kean in the 15th minute. But a red card for Alessandro Bastoni just before halftime shifted momentum and paved the way for Bosnia’s late equaliser by Haris Tabakovic. In the shootout, both Pio Esposito and Bryan Cristante missed for Italy while Bosnia converted every spot kick. Earlier on Tuesday, Turkey beat Kosovo 1-0, Sweden edged Poland 3-2 and the Czech Republic overcame Denmark on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Omo, na real shocker indeed! Shootout nerves clearly betrayed Italy after that solid 90 minutes.

I get the frustration, but penalties are a different challenge and don't always reflect the match quality.

For future matches, Italy could focus extra sessions on high-pressure penalties to rebuild confidence and avoid repeat heartbreak.
