1 / 2

Chelsea have joined Inter Milan in pursuing free agent defender John Stones after his Manchester City contract expired at the end of June. The 32-year-old former Barnsley graduate made 295 appearances for City, winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League and multiple domestic trophies. He also boasts 93 England caps and played in the Three Lions’ World Cup third-place finish. Blues are also in talks to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix and monitoring other defensive options. To free up space, Chelsea plan to sell some current central defenders including Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, while Trevoh Chalobah is linked with a move to Como. According to BBC Sport, Chelsea remain determined to strengthen their defence before the new season kicks off.
