Hugo Broos Steps Down After Five Years in Charge of Bafana Bafana

Hugo Broos Steps Down After Five Years in Charge of Bafana Bafana

Hugo Broos has confirmed he is leaving his role as head coach of South Africa’s national team after a record run of more than five years. Under his guidance, Bafana Bafana earned the 2023 AFCON bronze medal, secured a place in the 2026 World Cup and reached the knockout stage for the first time. Broos says he will retire from full-time coaching but remains open to an advisory or scouting position with SAFA. He has already spoken with the federation’s president and plans to return in July for a final farewell. Broos joked his wife welcomes the break but would be happy to travel back occasionally to support the team’s future plans.
