The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro-Gbaraun II, has elevated APC chieftain Michael Johnny to the title of Ibe-Penadouwei. The ceremony took place last Saturday in Oporoza, the kingdom’s headquarters. Johnny, a former chairman of the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, was honoured for his commitment and contributions to the growth of Gbaramatu Kingdom. He thanked the monarch for the distinction and expressed pride in his heritage. Speaking after the investiture, Michael Johnny pledged to use his new role to drive development in Gbaramatu and across the Ijaw Nation. He said the title will inspire greater service to his people.

Sure, I can see that role adding fresh energy to their council, maybe even stirring some good-natured competition among chiefs.

It's interesting that a former Egbema Gbaramatu Community chairman was chosen, but I wonder if political affiliation influenced this royal decision.

I respect the ceremony's tradition, but elevating a party chieftain feels more like political theatre than genuine cultural honour.

Local leaders should clarify how this appointment will benefit community development and ensure the new Ibe-Penadouwei addresses key needs.
