Plateau Police Arrests POS Fraudster over ₦1.55M Scam

Plateau Police Arrests POS Fraudster over ₦1.55M Scam

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Sambo Bitrus from Bauchi State for defrauding a POS operator of ₦1.55 million at Terminus market. According to victim Josephine Morolayo, the suspect checked his balance then requested ₦1.95 million. After entering his PIN, he received ₦1.55 million and fled when she discovered the receipt was from an earlier transaction. During interrogation, he admitted accessing her transaction history, canceling the withdrawal when his account was empty, and using the stolen funds to buy an iPhone 13 Pro and clothing. The police warn citizens to always verify transactions and reaffirm their commitment to combating financial crimes. Report suspicious activity at any local station or through the command’s emergency contacts.

How could a simple POS transaction leak so much money before anyone noticed? Has this happened to anyone else here?

How long did the suspect have access to that POS before anyone spotted the missing funds?

That's surprising. A POS system leaking over a million naira unnoticed does raise real concerns about oversight.

It's odd that the suspect requested ₦1.95 million after checking the balance, not just the original amount. Something doesn't add up.

Should we really blame POS operators alone when fraud like this can originate from multiple system gaps? Let's not point fingers too soon.

Abeg make we always confirm every detail on POS screen before we proceed with transaction, and report any strange requests immediately.
