CISLAC Calls for Forensic Audit of ₦36.9bn Kogi Security Vote Over Diversion Allegations

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has urged anti-corruption agencies to probe the alleged diversion of over ₦36.9 billion from Kogi State’s security account. The watchdog wants a forensic audit and recovery of any misappropriated funds. CISLAC says preliminary findings show ₦23.7 billion went to Real Striker Finance Limited and billions more were paid to private individuals and companies without clear justification. The group warns that misuse of security funds could betray public trust and weaken efforts against crime. The organisation has called on the EFCC, ICPC, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit and other agencies to investigate transactions, identify ultimate beneficiaries and prosecute those responsible. CISLAC also advocates reforming the security vote system to ensure transparency, clear budgeting and stronger oversight.

How do we ensure the proposed forensic audit uncovers every missing naira from that ₦36.9bn security allocation?

It's curious that months later, no agency has started any visible audit or recovery action on such a large security fund.

While I get the impulse for an audit, wouldn't a strict oversight mechanism now prevent future diversions better than chasing past funds?

Start by publishing all security spending details for public scrutiny, then track each line item to close gaps used for misappropriation.
