Is Nigeria Ready for an Igbo President?

I have noticed a cycle in Nigerian elections. We often re-elect leaders who underperform. We criticize them only to repeat the same mistakes. This pattern suggests we value sentiment over results. On my visit to Owerri, I saw cleaner streets and more order than in many other cities. Enugu’s digital reforms and Abia’s infrastructure projects also stand out. These successes reflect the South-East’s resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. Yet skepticism about Igbo leadership persists. Fans of Peter Obi point to his record in Anambra State. His improvements in education, healthcare, and finance offer measurable results. Democracy works best when we judge leaders by competence, integrity, and vision—not by region or ethnicity. The real question is whether Nigeria will embrace capable leadership, regardless of origin.

Do you think that a candidate's ethnic identity can outweigh performance records in Nigerian elections?

I agree, we sabi focus more on tribe than track record sometimes, it's time we change mindset.

It's interesting that Owerri has cleaner streets, but that alone doesn't guarantee effective leadership nationwide.

I'm not convinced that Igbo presidency alone changes our electoral habits; similar sentiments popped up with other regions too.

To break the cycle, voters should track officeholders' performance metrics and support transparent accountability measures.
