Super Eagles to Face India and Jamaica in May’s Unity Cup

Super Eagles to Face India and Jamaica in May’s Unity Cup

Reports indicate the Super Eagles will compete in the third consecutive Unity Cup this May. They are set to clash with India and Jamaica in the friendly tournament. Nigeria claimed the trophy in the last two editions. Eric Chelle’s side beat Ghana 2-1 in the 2025 semi-final and edged Jamaica on penalties after a 2-2 draw. The competition returned last year for the first time since 2004. Organisers will reveal venues and fixtures soon. The Super Eagles were in action last month, defeating Iran 2-1 and drawing 2-2 with Jordan.

Beating Ghana and claiming two trophies sounds impressive, but friendly tournaments often lack the same intensity as competitive qualifiers.

I get the hype, yet coach should prioritize tougher opponents rather than friendly matches that might not challenge our defense sufficiently.

It could be useful to focus on set-piece practice and fitness levels ahead of May, since India and Jamaica will offer varied playing styles.
