DSS Arraigns Ex-Governor El-Rufai for Alleged NSA Phone Tapping

DSS Arraigns Ex-Governor El-Rufai for Alleged NSA Phone Tapping

The Department of State Services has arraigned former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai before a Federal High Court in Abuja over a five-count charge of allegedly bugging the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu’s telephone. At the bail hearing, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik paused proceedings when a defence document cited by El-Rufai’s lawyer was found missing from court files. Both counsel agreed to stand down until the document is properly filed. El-Rufai, speaking on national television in February, said he learned of plans to arrest him via a leaked recording from the NSA’s phone. He claimed security agencies routinely tap calls without court orders.

Yes, this move seems to reflect a more assertive, independent security service focusing on accountability over politics.

It might help if citizens follow the court proceedings closely and demand transparent updates from DSS and judiciary.
