Onitsha’s Ogbogwu Market Surrenders N435m Worth of Fake Drugs to NAFDAC
Onitsha’s Ogbogwu Market handed over 192 items of counterfeit and expired medicines worth N435 million to the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control for destruction. Caretaker Chairman Chukwuleta Ndubisi said traders willingly submitted the substandard drugs as part of a collective effort to rid the market of falsified products. Over 400 cartons of adulterated drugs were gathered between December 2025 and June 2026. Ndubisi thanked the market taskforce and executive members for their support in sanitising the trade. He noted resistance from some traders but insisted the “revolution” against fake drugs was gaining ground. NAFDAC Deputy Director Omoyeni Tunji praised the market’s cooperation and confirmed the seized items will be taken to the Awka dump site for destruction. He commended the agency and the federal government’s ongoing fight against counterfeit medicines nationwide.
