Analyst: Fubara Lured to APC with False Promise of Second Term
A policy analyst says Governor Sim Fubara was deceived into joining the APC with the promise of a second term. Prof Simon Nnah argues that the ruling party used the “euphoria” of making him its 001 to secure his defection and shield him from impeachment threats. Nnah explains that Fubara’s move was meant as a protective strategy after a state of emergency in Rivers State triggered fresh impeachment efforts. He claims the APC exploited Electoral Act rules to trap new members and deny them rival party tickets. Despite stepping aside in the governorship primary for state peace, the analyst warns that Fubara remains a formidable political force. He also notes recent decamping of the governor’s loyalists from the APC to other parties in Rivers State.
