Ezekuna: Tracing the Ancestral Roots of the Ezza Nation
Good day, esteemed NaijaWorlders. Greetings from Onueke, the ancestral home of the Ezza people. I share the history of Ezekuna, the progenitor of the Ezza nation. He and his wife Anyigo were laid to rest at Onueke. Their children founded the major Ezza towns—Umuezeoka, Umuezeokaoha, Kpakpaji, Amegu, Igbeagu, Oriuzor, Umuoghara, Ezzagu, Umunwagu, and Idembia. This is why we are all known as Umu Ezekuna—Children of Ezekuna. Historical records show that in 1882, a descendant of Ezekuna represented Ezza Kingdom in London, and in 1902 the colonial government seized the central Ofò, confirming our unified leadership before Nigeria’s formation. I share this account for unity and posterity. Umu Ezekuna, where is your father’s compound? Mention your town and let us celebrate our shared heritage. Ezekuna kwenu! Kwezuenu!
