Glasgow 2026: Ruth Asuquo Wins Weightlifting Silver for Nigeria

Nigeria’s Ruth Asuquo won silver in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Asuquo recorded a personal-best 75kg in the snatch to finish third in that segment. She then missed her first two attempts at 93kg in the clean and jerk before succeeding with her final lift to clinch silver. She finished with a total of 168kg. India’s Mirabai Chanu won gold, while Malaysia’s Irene Henry took bronze. Nigeria now has seven medals at the Games: three gold and four silver, placing the team third on the medals table.
