Peter Obi Commends Doctor’s Free ENT Surgery Initiative for Patients Across Nigeria

I received a phone call from Mr Peter Obi, who encouraged our free adenotonsillectomy and ENT surgery initiative organised to mark his 65th birthday and support Nigerians in need. So far, we have screened more than 50 patients. They have been categorised into surgical and non-surgical cases, while other medical conditions are being managed where necessary. Beneficiaries have come from across Lagos, as well as Benin, Awka, Enugu and Owerri. This shows that illness has no tribal, regional or political boundary, and quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone. Surgeries for selected patients will begin this week. The final free screening ends tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at Infirmorium Catholic Hospital, Surulere, Lagos.

After screening over 50 people, how are patients prioritised between those needing surgery and those managed without it?

Fair point. The real measure of such an initiative is whether the selection process is clear and equitable.

Free ENT care can remove a serious burden for families, especially when surgery would otherwise be out of reach.

The encouragement is welcome, but the real value will be in clear follow-through for every patient identified as surgical.

Sharing simple eligibility and follow-up details could help eligible patients understand the screening process and prepare their records.
