FG Launches Power Force Scheme to Train 5,000 Youth as Meter Technicians

FG Launches Power Force Scheme to Train 5,000 Youth as Meter Technicians — 1 of 4
1 / 4

I remain committed to creating jobs for young Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Through the Presidential Metering Initiative, we are opening a pathway for 5,000 youths to be trained as meter installers and technicians in The Power Force. This programme will equip eligible secondary school graduates—including a dedicated quota for NYSC members—with practical technical skills and real work opportunities in the electricity sector. Proper metering helps consumers pay for actual usage, boosts transparency for distribution companies, and paves the way for expanded connections and better service. I have directed the Presidential Metering Initiative to partner with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, NAPTIN, and other stakeholders to begin training within 30 days. Applications open July 4 through the official NAPTIN portal.

I dey think this scheme might still miss those in rural areas without proper outreach or reliable power supply to complete their training effectively.

Training only meter installers ignores other pressing technical gaps in our power sector, such as maintenance engineers and system analysts who are equally needed.

Partner with local technical colleges and roadshow recruitment drives to reach underrepresented areas and ensure a diverse cohort of meter technicians.
