Chief Madosi’s Annual Drive Transforms Lives of Widows and Elderly in Ogun State

Chief Madosi’s Annual Drive Transforms Lives of Widows and Elderly in Ogun State

The Madosi Empowerment Network, led by Chief Samuel Elijah Whenayon (“Madosi”), has launched a yearly outreach to support widows and senior citizens in Lambe and nearby communities. What began as a 60th birthday celebration now includes free eye exams, medicated glasses and health screenings. Later this year, beneficiaries will receive cash grants and tools—such as grinding machines, hairdryers and freezers—to boost small businesses. Funded mainly by Madosi and close associates, the network welcomes partnerships with government agencies, corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals. Over the years, many widows and elderly persons have reported better health, stronger livelihoods and renewed hope.

Offering free eye exams and medicated glasses addresses critical needs, though program reach in some hamlets might still be inconsistent.

I'm not convinced a single annual drive suffices; local clinics need ongoing support rather than just a yearly outreach.

Organize rotating eye exam clinics across villages; this way Madosi's team delivers care beyond Lambe every month, not only during the annual event.
