Former Rep. Agbonayinma Quits APC, Cites Undemocratic Practices

Former Rep. Agbonayinma Quits APC, Cites Undemocratic Practices

Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress. In a letter read to journalists in Benin City, he accused party leaders in Ikpoba-Okha of undue interference and undemocratic tendencies. A foundation member since the days of AC, ACN and ACD, Agbonayinma said it pains him to see the party “becoming the property of one or a few individuals.” He did not state which party he will join next but confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 elections. Despite his departure, he praised the APC’s hardworking members and its state chairman for their sense of brotherhood. He also lamented that Edo South has received fewer federal appointments than Edo North.

Claiming undemocratic interference sounds dramatic; internal disagreements are common in most political parties.

Perhaps stakeholders should push for transparent primaries and clear candidate selection guidelines to prevent future resignations.
