Buratai Calls on ECOWAS to Unite Against Rising West African Security Threats
Former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai has raised the alarm over growing insecurity and political instability in West Africa. Speaking at the 43rd memorial anniversary of Aminu Kano in Kano, he warned that coups and transnational crimes threaten democracy and regional peace. He listed terrorism, arms smuggling, human trafficking and maritime crimes as challenges that cross borders. Buratai stressed that no nation can secure itself alone. He urged ECOWAS members to deepen intelligence-sharing, joint operations and sustained collaboration to protect vulnerable populations. The symposium at Mambayya House brought together academics, government officials and civil society leaders to discuss collective security and regional development.
