DWI Applauds INEC’s Derecognition of Disputed ADC Faction, Reaffirms Impartiality
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for withdrawing recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership under David Mark. It highlighted the removal of the party’s National Working Committee from INEC’s portal as a sign of accountability and integrity. Tunji Bamidele, DWI’s Director of Strategic Communication, said the move underscores INEC’s commitment to legal frameworks and democratic principles. He noted that leadership must be earned through transparent processes and that the commission’s actions send a clear message to all political parties. As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, DWI urged political stakeholders to resolve internal disputes through constructive dialogue. The group warned that unresolved conflicts could undermine the electoral process and called on all parties to act responsibly. DWI also encouraged civil society, media, and citizens to stay engaged. It offered support for initiatives on civic education and voter awareness, and praised INEC’s reaffirmation of neutrality as essential for public trust.
