US Congressman Labels Trump-Iran Deal a ‘Surrender Agreement,’ Vows to Vote No

US Congressman Labels Trump-Iran Deal a ‘Surrender Agreement,’ Vows to Vote No

US Rep Brad Schneider condemned the recent memorandum of understanding with Iran as a “surrender agreement,” accusing the administration of bypassing Congress and the American people. He argued that the conflict began 111 days ago without legislative approval and that the secret deal took effect without required review. The Illinois lawmaker warned that the accord would grant Iran hundreds of billions of dollars, unrestricted oil and petrochemical sales, and access to the international banking system. He said these concessions risk rebuilding Iran’s missile and drone programs and strengthening its regional proxies. Schneider urged Congress to invoke the Iranian Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 and hold public hearings for full transparency. He pledged to vote against the agreement unless it permanently blocks Iran’s nuclear ambitions and safeguards US national security.

It's odd that Congress was kept in the dark on a memorandum this significant, especially amid an ongoing 111-day conflict.

How can we be certain Congress truly had no prior visibility into that memo?

I get the concern, but isn't calling it a surrender a bit dramatic without seeing the full agreement text?

Congress should demand a full briefing on the memorandum details before casting any votes to ensure proper oversight.
