Okowa Warns Against Shifting Anioma State to South East, Insists It Remains in South South

Okowa Warns Against Shifting Anioma State to South East, Insists It Remains in South South

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has challenged Senator Ned Nwoko’s plan to reposition Anioma in the South East, arguing that any new Anioma State must stay in the South South zone. Speaking to APC stakeholders in Oshimili South LGA ahead of his reported 2027 Senate bid, Okowa said the nine Delta North LGAs should form Anioma State, with Asaba as the capital. He dismissed suggestions to move the headquarters, calling them “misguided” and out of touch with local wishes. Okowa criticised what he described as a one-man push for state creation and urged broad consultation with the people. He warned against false promises on state creation, stressing that any future demand must reflect a united position from both Anioma indigenes and the Delta State government.
