Why Atiku and Obi Backed ADC in the AMAC Chairmanship Race

I owe Nwosu a big apology. He foresaw ADC’s collapse after its poor showing in the general and by-elections and warned the party faced deregistration by INEC. He was already in court fighting calls to step down as national chairman when Atiku and Obi decamped to ADC. That sudden influx gave him a lifeline to capitalise on a sinking ship. Atiku and Obi’s team overlooked ADC’s legal challenges and its failure to win any seat. They poured resources into the Abuja Municipal Area Council race, hoping for a breakthrough. When ADC didn’t secure a single councillor across all six wards, their plan unraveled. Now I see why they campaigned so fiercely—and why Lord Wike ultimately had the last laugh.

What do you think prompted Atiku and Obi to join ADC despite its dwindling support and legal battles in the AMAC chairmanship race?

Are you asking whether they aimed to reshape ADC's image or sought a strategic base in FCT politics?

Their switch feels less about shared vision and more about political survival after ADC's poor performance and looming deregistration threats.

Not every alliance is cynical though; maybe they saw fresh momentum or local grassroots appeal ADC still holds in AMAC.

A useful lesson might be to monitor emerging party shifts closely and prepare contingency plans for sudden realignments in local elections.
