Whistleblowers Demand Sack and Prosecution of SEDC MD Over N153m Rental Scandal
The Citizens Whistleblowers Coalition has called for the removal and prosecution of South East Development Commission Managing Director Mark Okoye for alleged breaches of the Public Procurement Act and ICPC Act. The group cited revelations that Okoye allegedly spent N153 million renting a single office and another N2.5 billion on furnishings. They also highlighted a troubling N2 billion discrepancy in SEDC’s 2025 funds during a televised Senate oversight session. The coalition praised the Senate committee’s probe and urged anti-corruption agencies to launch a thorough investigation. They warned that unchecked misconduct at SEDC could signal similar problems across other development commissions. They further urged all development commission boards to enforce strict policy oversight, project monitoring, financial accountability, and transparent spending.
