Adeboye Defends Tinubu’s Role in Combating Insecurity

Pastor Enoch Adeboye has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over worsening security in Nigeria. Speaking at a US–Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington on June 23, the RCCG General Overseer said the president fulfilled his duty by issuing orders to the military. Adeboye likened Tinubu’s role to that of any commander-in-chief, saying once directives are given he has done his bit. He argued it was unfair to expect the president to personally join operations, noting that leaders give commands and leave execution to security forces. Despite his defense, the cleric acknowledged that terrorism and kidnappings have worsened and spread to southern Nigeria since last December’s US air strikes on Islamist militants. He said Nigerians are now asking, “Where is your God?” as violence reaches new areas. The pastor revealed he advised Tinubu and the First Lady to issue a 90-day ultimatum for military commanders to wipe out terrorism or resign. He also urged action against wealthy sponsors of violence, including certain politicians and business figures, and called for greater international collaboration to support Nigeria’s security efforts.
