Trump Claims Iran’s Economy Is ‘Collapsing’ Under US Strait of Hormuz Blockade

Trump Claims Iran’s Economy Is ‘Collapsing’ Under US Strait of Hormuz Blockade

US President took to Truth Social to say Iran’s finances are on the brink after the Strait of Hormuz was closed. He warned that Tehran now loses about $500 million every day because US forces are blocking its oil shipping lanes. He also announced an indefinite extension of a two-week ceasefire, arguing that Iran’s government is fractured and needs pressure. The blockade, he said, targets only Iran-linked vessels but effectively cuts off the regime’s main oil export route through Kharg Island. Trump claimed that Iran’s military and police have not been paid and suggested that reopening the strait without strong US demands would weaken negotiating leverage. A US Treasury official confirmed the blockade is constraining Tehran’s maritime trade and squeezing its revenue lifelines.

It's striking he cites daily losses around $500 million without detailing how Iran might reroute or resist.

We shouldn't assume Iran has no alternative markets or clandestine routes, it might still find buyers outside the Strait.

Tracking oil revenues and shipping patterns could clarify actual impact before drawing conclusions on Tehran's financial health.
