IMF Forecasts Nigeria’s Economy to Outgrow US and UK in 2026

IMF Forecasts Nigeria’s Economy to Outgrow US and UK in 2026 — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Daniel Bwala, the president’s special adviser on policy communication, shared highlights from the IMF’s April 2026 World Economic Outlook. The report projects Nigeria’s GDP to grow by 4.1% next year, compared with 2.3% for the United States and 0.8% for the United Kingdom. It also forecasts 4.3% growth in 2027, placing Nigeria among the top performers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Bwala attributes the stronger outlook to the ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He admits the changes have been challenging but says they are now beginning to yield tangible results.
