Lagos State to Host Week-Long Cooperatives Celebration for Poverty Reduction and Peace
The Lagos State Government says cooperative societies play a key role in reducing poverty, creating jobs and strengthening community resilience across the state. The Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment highlighted cooperatives’ impact on affordable credit, entrepreneurship development and social welfare at a recent press briefing. In partnership with the Lagos State Cooperative Federation, the government will mark the 2026 International Day of Cooperatives from July 1 to July 5. Activities include roadshows in all 24 cooperative areas, Jumat services, an exhibition of MSME offerings, panel discussions, merit awards and a thanksgiving service. The federation’s president praised Lagos as the leading cooperative hub in Nigeria. He also announced the launch of “Coop Radio” to boost cooperative education and information sharing. Stakeholders and development partners are invited to join in strengthening the cooperative movement.
