Documents Reveal Alleged 2025 Coup Plan to Seize Villa, Bases and Airports
Fresh documents and investigators’ records have revealed new details of the alleged 2025 plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The material reportedly includes suspects’ statements, bank records, coded communications and plans for a military takeover. According to the records, the accused officers allegedly discussed seizing the Presidential Villa, military facilities, broadcast centres and airports. They reportedly used farming-related code words, with “harvest” referring to the proposed execution day and “fertilisers” referring to logistics. The documents also outline alleged plans to mobilise troops, gun trucks and weapons from military formations. Suspects gave differing accounts of whether senior military officers were to be arrested or killed, while one alleged planner was said to have intended to lead a post-takeover government. The allegations are being tested in ongoing proceedings at a General Court Martial and the Federal High Court in Abuja. The defendants have challenged the admissibility of some statements and video evidence, while the prosecution insists its procedures were lawful.
