Rivers PCRC Backs Police Warning Against Mob Justice, Plans Public Awareness Campaigns
The Police Community Relations Committee in Rivers State has backed Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju's warning against mob action and jungle justice. PCRC Chairman Voke Emore urged residents to hand suspected thieves and other crime suspects over to the police instead of assaulting, humiliating or lynching them. He said suspects are presumed innocent until a court rules otherwise, and mob violence can undermine investigations and harm innocent people. The committee said it will begin awareness campaigns at community, divisional and area-command levels to promote lawful reporting of crime. It also urged residents to cooperate with the police to improve safety across the state.
