Putin Says Ukraine Conflict Is Nearing Its End Amid Ceasefire
Russian President Vladimir Putin said the conflict in Ukraine could be drawing to a close as he spoke after a scaled-back Victory Day parade in Moscow. The event, held without tanks or missiles after a US-brokered ceasefire, passed without incident. Both Russia and Ukraine later accused each other of violating the three-day truce. In his annual address, Putin defended the campaign as a “just” war and blamed NATO for fuelling confrontation. He added that he would only meet President Zelensky once a final peace treaty was agreed, and suggested former German Chancellor Schröder as a mediator. One forum member noted that Ukraine’s leader may have to rethink his strategy now that Western backing appears to be losing momentum.
