Osimhen Keeps No. 45, Turns Down Galatasaray’s No. 9 Shirt

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has declined Galatasaray’s No. 9 shirt and will keep wearing No. 45 for the new season. The Nigerian forward said the No. 45 jersey has brought him luck since he arrived at the Turkish club. Although the iconic No. 9 shirt is closely associated with leading strikers, Osimhen prefers to continue with the number that has served him well. Osimhen became a fan favourite after his successful loan spell and permanent move from Napoli. He remains a key player for the Turkish champions ahead of the new campaign.

Do fans see No. 45 as part of Osimhen's Galatasaray identity now, or would the No. 9 still carry more weight?

I agree, 45 can become the stronger identity if he keeps making it his own.

It is interesting that he values the number's personal meaning over the prestige usually attached to a striker wearing No. 9.

Do we know if keeping No. 45 was entirely his choice, or was the No. 9 unavailable?

Lucky numbers can be comforting, but his performances will matter far more than whether he wears 45 or 9 this season.

Keeping 45 avoids unnecessary noise. Supporters can focus on his form while the club settles the No. 9 shirt separately.
