Brentford Secure Defender Michael Kayode on Long-Term Deal Until 2032

Brentford have confirmed that defender Michael Kayode has signed a new contract running until the summer of 2032, with an option for an additional year. The 21-year-old Italy Under-21 international joined on loan from Fiorentina in January 2025 before making the move permanent. Since arriving in West London, Kayode has made 56 appearances and played a vital role in Brentford’s ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season. His performances also earned him a nomination for Young Player of the Season. Head coach Keith Andrews praised Kayode’s development, energy and enthusiasm. He described him as “a joy to coach” and said the new deal was fully deserved. Kayode began his career in Italy with Juventus’ academy, had a spell at Serie D side Gozzano, and made his Serie A debut with Fiorentina in 2023. He also featured in their run to the UEFA Conference League final in 2024.

Totally agree. Keeping Kayode long-term will boost defensive consistency and give coaches time to refine his role effectively.

Signing Kayode until 2032 after just a brief loan stint feels like a big gamble for a 21-year-old defender.

True, a contract this long does feel daring, but maybe they spotted serious potential in his game.

A long-term commitment for a 21-year-old defender seems risky if Brentford need to adjust or reinvest in other areas later.

Including clear performance clauses or a flexible release option would help Brentford manage risk if Kayode's progress stalls.
