Power Minister Adelabu Apologises for Persistent Outages, Vows Fix in Two Weeks
If your generator has been running non-stop, you’re not alone. On March 24, 2026, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu stood in Abuja to apologise for worsening power outages and assure Nigerians that relief is on the way. He explained that the end of the rainy season forced a shift from hydro to thermal plants. Gas suppliers cut deliveries after power companies fell behind on a ₦6.3 trillion debt, forcing some plants offline and leaving homes and businesses in the dark. A special committee now monitors gas supply compliance and oversees urgent pipeline repairs, including projects by Seplat Energy. Adelabu says these measures will restore electricity within two weeks. President Tinubu has also launched an 11-member team to establish the new Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO) to tackle generation, transmission and grid issues long term.
