NICASA Clarifies Solomon Eziko’s ‘Igwe Ndigbo’ Title Amid South African Tensions

The Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA) has explained that installing Solomon Eziko as ‘Igwe Ndigbo’ in East London was purely cultural and carried no political authority. The association stressed the ceremony did not seek to undermine South Africa’s traditional institutions or constitutional order. President Frank Onyekwelu said the title promotes unity, preserves Igbo cultural identity, and strengthens social cohesion within the diaspora. He apologized for any misunderstanding and confirmed there was no coronation of a kingdom, only a cultural installation. NICASA reiterated its full respect for South African law and traditional leadership. The group remains committed to peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement within its host nation.
