Church Pianist Secretly Records and Copies My Playing — Need Advice

Good morning. I’m a pianist in my church and also serve in the media unit. A new pianist joined recently and he plays well. But he secretly records everything I play and then copies my exact keyboard ideas each Sunday. I offered to teach him if he wanted to learn, but he still sneaks behind my keyboard stand to record and reproduce my playing without permission. This makes me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. What can I do to handle this situation?

What steps have you taken to address this privately, and could a candid conversation with him reshape his approach?

Absolutely. Bringing this up privately could help him understand your concerns and respect your playing.

Have you actually heard him explain why he records you before confronting him?

It's surprising he ignores your teaching offer yet meticulously replicates your playing, as if hiding behind secrecy suggests questionable ethics.

Na so you dey always give free lessons, yet him dey record and copy rather than ask permission first.

Consider marking your sheet music or adjusting your intros slightly, so your unique riffs remain unmistakably yours on Sunday liturgy.
