Wike Dismisses Critics’ Hypocrisy Over FCT Land Allocations

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, defended the territory’s land allocation policy during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja. He accused those questioning the process of hypocrisy, noting many once benefited from similar allocations. Wike emphasized that land allocation is a routine government tool for driving investment and urban growth. He clarified that the FCT Administration does not sell land outright but allocates it under strict development and investment conditions, with all allottees paying processing fees for their Certificates of Occupancy. The minister criticized media outlets for attacking the policy, calling them profit-driven businesses rather than charitable institutions. He reminded critics, “When you live in a glass house, don’t throw stones,” pointing out that undeveloped parcels, like the Jabi Lake plots, were reclaimed and reassigned to investors who would develop them. Wike insisted that prime land must attract serious investment to become world-class, and warned that allocations would be revoked if agreed development terms were not met. He concluded that his administration would choose realistic development over public applause.
