Morocco to Stop Bidding for African Football Tournaments, Says FRMF President
Fouzi Lekjaa, President of Morocco’s Football Federation, announced in a recent Al Jazeera interview that Morocco will no longer submit bids to host any African competitions. He said this decision stands regardless of the tournament’s nature and wished other countries the best if they choose to organize events. Lekjaa denied any special advantages, explaining that Morocco only hosted competitions that lacked other bidders. He also addressed the controversial AFCON final against Senegal, recalling security concerns and fan incidents that followed their walk-off. Responding to claims of disproportionate influence in CAF, Lekjaa stressed that Morocco holds no undue power within the Confederation. He noted his role on CAF’s finance committee was awarded based on professional merit rather than national ties.
