Socceroos Midfielder Cristian Volpato Allegedly Tests Positive for Cocaine During Sydney Speeding Stops
Cristian Volpato, a breakout star for Australia at the recent World Cup, is under investigation after police stopped him twice for speeding on Anzac Bridge in Sydney. The 22-year-old was first pulled over late Thursday for driving between 86 and 94 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A roadside breath test returned a negative result. Around two hours later, officers stopped him again for travelling at 109 km/h in the same zone. He allegedly tested positive for cocaine in an on-the-spot oral fluid test. New South Wales police have suspended his international licence for six months and taken a secondary oral fluid sample for further analysis. Volpato played in three of Australia’s four World Cup matches and has featured for Serie A side Sassuolo since 2023.
