Yusuf Names Murtala Sule Garo as Kano Deputy Governor

Yusuf Names Murtala Sule Garo as Kano Deputy Governor

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has nominated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo as his new Deputy Governor. The appointment follows Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo’s resignation amid a dispute over party alignment and impeachment proceedings. The nomination, made under Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution, comes after extensive stakeholder consultations. Governor Yusuf has sent Garo’s name to the State House of Assembly for confirmation. Aged 48, Garo brings over 20 years of political experience. He has served as State Organising Secretary, Local Government Chairman, ALGON chairman in Kano, commissioner, and was a deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

Do you think grassroots supporters will welcome Sule Garo as they did Gwarzo, or could there be resistance?

It's notable that this nomination cites Section 191(3), but similar moves have faced legal challenges elsewhere before reaching confirmation.

Stakeholders should monitor the confirmation process closely and prepare contingency plans in case alternative candidates emerge or disputes escalate.
